Indigenous support
Indigenous students who are identified as requiring support are offered extra tuition in Literacy and Numeracy. This intervention is delivered by teacher aides.
Additional assistance is also available throughout the year through a number of other initiatives.
LOTE (Languages other than English): Indonesian
Language studies focus on developing language proficiency and promote intercultural understanding. Studying a language better equips students to engage with others and participate fully in an increasingly globalised world. A teacher specialising in Indonesian language instructs students from Years 3 to 6.
By studying another language, students:
gain access to other peoples, ideas and ways of thinking
become interested in and respectful of other cultures
develop social and cognitive skills that will help them in other areas of the curriculum
improve future employment and economic opportunities.
Learning support
Emerald North State School caters for the individual needs of students through flexible classroom programs, learning support and special needs programs and accesses the full range of visiting support personnel.
A part-time Support Teacher Learning Difficulties (STLD) is based at the school. The STLD supports students with learning needs through developing and facilitating appropriate intervention programs for students. The STLD also works closely with classroom teachers to ensure that class programs cater for the diverse range of needs within each class, and that the appropriate support is provided to these students.
Our school implements a comprehensive intervention program for children who require support with their learning. Teachers and Teacher Aides are involved across a variety of learning areas to assist students. Specific ‘information’ regarding to the support can be gained from the classroom teacher or Learning Support Teacher.
