Emerald North State School was opened in 1980 as a result of the expansion in the coal mining industry in Emerald. The school experienced massive enrolment growth in its early years. In the late 1990’s the growth rate stabilised and we currently have approximately 300 students. Enrolment is still significantly affected by issues in the coal mining industry, but the school population now reflects a cross section of the community.
