Instrumental Music

​Emerald North State School currently has an Instrumental Music Program available for students in Years 4 to 6.

The aims of the program are:

  • to provide the opportunity for students to learn a musical instrument during group instruction and band situations;
  • to provide the opportunity for students to develop their musical abilities while learning concentration, discipline, social skills and responsibility as members of an ensemble;
  • to provide an enriching dimension to enhance the existing classroom curriculum; and
  • to encourage both group and solo performances.

Tuition is provided for the following instruments:

  • Woodwind - flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone and tenor saxophone;
  • Brass - trumpet, trombone, French horn and euphonium;
  • Percussion - glockenspiel, snare drum, timpani, bass drum and auxiliary percussion such as cymbals and triangles.

Children accepted into the program receive a minimum of one half hour lesson per week on their instrument. Classes are conducted in small groups containing students of a similar standard.

School instruments are available for loan to beginner students for one year. After this time each child is required to purchase their own instrument (except for the larger, more expensive instruments, which may have their loan extended).

Performance opportunities may include:

  • Local performances at various venues
  • School based performances including parades, fetes, end of year concert etc
  • Regional and State competitions such as the Central Highlands Eisteddfod (held annually throughout the Central Highlands).

For your child to be able to take part please complete the Instrumental Music Program Questionnaire  and return the completed questionnaire to the office in the administration building.

Once your child has been accepted the following forms will be will be sent home from the school. 

  • Instrumental Music Acceptance Letter
  • Instrumental Music Loan Agreement
  • Student Resource Scheme
